Swiggy Voice of Hunger: how a two-second ad became a language

Voice of Hunger was a challenge on Instagram: record a two-second video of the sound you make when you're hungry. Best sounds become the voiceover for a Swiggy ad on prime time TV.

The campaign was cheap. It was ridiculous. It was completely on-brand. And it gave Swiggy something advertising almost never gives you: a piece of intellectual property that lives inside your customers' bodies. A grunt. A growl. A hmm.

Years later, Swiggy still speaks in that same tone. The tagline shifted. The design system evolved. The voice — that primal, half-joking, all-in-on-hunger voice — never did.

Producer’s Take

What we’d tell you.

The best brand campaigns aren't the ones that go viral. They're the ones that permanently change how the brand talks.

When you brief a campaign, ask one extra question: even after this campaign is over, what stays? A tagline, a colour, a sound, a joke, a piece of body language. That is the actual output. Everything else is airtime.
